What are you feeding your dog?

When you buy a bag of dog food or treats, you don’t think to check the list of ingredients. After all, why would a company put anything that could harm a dog into their food? Milo’s Kitchen Beef Jerky treats have an ingredient that is rather troubling. Last on the list is onion extract. Most dog owners know onion is toxic to dogs. To a large dog it may take a large quantity to actually cause harm, however in the smaller breeds it may take next to none.

So what exactly can onions do to your dog? Onion toxicity in dogs can cause anemia, so what exactly is anemia?

Red blood cells contain hemoglobin, a molecule that carries oxygen to the tissues. The oxidants in onions cause the formation of Heinz-bodies creating red bloods cells that are rigid and unable to function properly. The red blood cells rupture and are filtered out of the bloodstream.

Anemia is the condition where the number of red blood cells and/or hemoglobin is unusually low. Since red blood cells carry much needed oxygen to the tissues and organs, lack of red blood cells can create a range of problems including heart failure.

Onion toxicity in dogs can cause Heinz-body hemolytic anemia, a serious and deadly condition. I urge all dog owners to always read the label on dog treats, you never know what might be lurking inside.

New layout

Decided it was time to freshen things up here, went dark and with Mass Effect. The last game of the trilogy (that I am obsessed with) comes out next year, the demo hits sometime in January. I’m counting on a media firestorm starting sometime in January, so in honor of what is to come… it was high time for a Mass Effect theme.

Honestly, you need a hobby…

Things should now be back to normal after the hack. People need to get a hobby, this site is hardly interesting enough or worth the time to hack.

Felicia Day in Dragon Age Redemption

Color me excited, the inner nerd girl in me was so happy when this project was announced. Felicia Day + Dragon Age = Epic. I’m a huge fan of both Felicia and Dragon Age, so the idea of Felicia writing a web series based on Dragon Age had me all excited. Episode one finally came out on the 11th and I loved it. The make-up is far from perfect when it comes to the various races, but the writing and action I am loving.

The new Dragon Age II DLC featuring Felicia’s character also came out on the 11th. I’ve been through it twice thus far, it definitely has a leg up on Legacy when it comes to humor and difficulty. Still I think Legacy might edge it out for me, just because of the connection to Hawke’s history, family and the Warden’s. It’s hard to not pick lore even over Felicia. So here ends my Felicia Day nerdness post. You can visit my Felicia Day site for all of the latest on Miss Day: Felicia Day Web.

WordPress Again

I can never decide. Just an html page or WordPress but I’ve finally settled. WordPress it is. So all pages are broken for the time being, until I actually add them.. which I am working on at the moment.
